NFPW honors RuthAnn Hogue in Denver, September 2006

I am proud to announce that the National Federation of Press Women honored Goodbye, Walter: The Inspiring Story of a Terminal Cancer Patient with a Second Place Award in its 2006 Communications Contest's Religious/Inspirational Nonfiction category. I was able to travel to Denver to accept the award and participate in a book-signing event at the Adams Mark Hotel.

Goodbye, Walter wins first place award

Hello,
I'm so excited to announce to my family, friends and readers I have not yet met that my first book release has just been named the best nonfiction memoir entered in this year's Arizona Press Women's 2006 Communications Awards. I've won many awards over the years, but this is the first one for a book, and coincidentally is also for my first book. So this one will always be the sweetest, regardless of what else might be in store down the road.

Here is the scoop on the award:

Karen Villaneuva served as judge of the nonfiction books, memoir category in Arizona Press Women's Communications Awards, in which Goodbye, Walter placed first. The book has advanced to national competition with the National Federation of Press Women's 2006 Communications Contest. Results will be announced in Denver this fall.

Karen Villaneuva, a book publicist with Author Care who has worked with best-selling authors regionally and nationally. She describes "Goodbye, Walter" as, "An intimate look at the process of death and the human heart and spirit. As Hogue struggles with her own "deaths" and rebirths, she finds salvation in her hospice care assignment. Hospice care "saves" Walter Schifter and Walter Schifter saves RuthAnn Hogue. Providing a rare glimpse into the mind of a dying man, Hogue's book also renders a moving portrait of the intimates involved: Their highs and lows, their joys and sufferings, as well as their moments of enlightenment. For those of little faith, and for those of great faith. Touching and commendable."

Last Chance, before it's listed on MLS

Hi,
You've probably read some of my columns about how sad I am to soon be leaving my beautiful home in Dove Mountain -- yet excited about the opportunity to finally live close to my family.

For those of you who are investment minded and interested in buying a property in Arizona, please take a look at the pre-listing for my home. It will go up on MLS listings soon and my real estate agent will be replacing my For Sale By Owner status. Please visit http://www.powerbott.com for more listing information.

The area is a great place to live with excellent schools, a small-town pace with big-city business and fun not too far away. See http://www.maranausd.org.
In case you missed it, please check out this column on why I'm moving. http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/southwestvalleyopinions/articles/0315swv-hogue15.html.

In addition, you might want to visit the Dove Mountain Civic Group's Web site. They have information about what's happening, hiking club events and more. See http://www.dovemountaincivicgroup.org for information.

P.S. Thank you for checking out this site! For information on my son's home for sale in Phoenix and my daughter's home for sale in Queen Creek, please visit Ferris Realty.

RuthAnn Hogue appears live on Utah's AM820, Radio for Women

RuthAnn Hogue appeared at 8 a.m. April 26 as a guest on Bookin' It, a regular feature each Wednesday on the Waking up with Rebecca & Kurt
show on Utah's AM820, KUTR radio for women.

RuthAnn talked about how she came to meet Walter, what it was like to spend time with him talking about his life while documenting his death, what Walter was like as a person and much more.

Audio has not been posted, but check back soon and we'll let you know if a Web link to hear the radio interview becomes available.

P.S. Barnes & Noble purchased books to have on hand for radio show listeners in Salt Lake. Please show support by visiting your SLC Barnes & Noble.

Special thanks go out from RuthAnn to Rebecca, Kurt and the show's producer. "I wish we'd had more time, but it was certainly a pleasure to be able to share Walter's story so it can hopefully continue to help others," she said.

Happy Easter!

Good morning. I would like to wish everyone a great Easter holiday. I will be heading to church in a few hours, but my celebration of Easter actually began April 6 when I had the pleasure of attending the world's largest outdoor Easter Pageant with several members of my family.

The event takes place each year at the Arizona Temple in Mesa, Ariz., and includes a cast of 500 or so, I believe. The cast portrayed the life and death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as told in the King James version of the Holy Bible. Dancers and singers and actors alike did a great job in telling the timeless story.

It was truly a sight to behold.

It's also a comforting reminder that all of those who have gone before me (including Walter) to the other side of this earthly existence into what is known as death, will one day live again. Because of God's grace, not because of anything any of us can or will do on our own, we will all live again.

And what better news is there than that?

Happy Easter!
